I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Amendment Regulations 2006 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.

3.   Principal Regulations

In these regulations, the Vehicle and Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 2001 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.

4.    Regulation 108 amended (Other lights and reflectors)

Regulation 108 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:
(a) by omitting " Emergency Services Act 1976 " from paragraph (h) of the definition of exempt vehicle in subregulation (1) and substituting " Emergency Management Act 2006 ";
(b) by inserting the following paragraph after paragraph (h) in the definition of exempt vehicle in subregulation (1) :
(i) a transport enforcement vehicle;
(c) by omitting from subregulation (4)(c) "lights; and" and substituting "lights.";
(d) by omitting paragraph (d) from subregulation (4) .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation)

These regulations amend the Vehicle and Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 2001 so as to –
(a) provide that a transport enforcement vehicle may be fitted with one or more flashing lights of any colour and one or more reflectors of any colour; and
(b) update a legislative reference consequent on the enactment of the Emergency Management Act 2006.
