Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Registration Labels) Regulations 2012
I, the Lieutenant-Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 .

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Registration Labels) Regulations 2012 .
These regulations take effect on 1 September 2012.
In these regulations, the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2010 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.
4. Regulation 64 amended (Issue of registration labels)
Regulation 64 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by inserting in subregulation (1) "in respect of a heavy vehicle" after "label";(b) by omitting from subregulation (2)(a) "vehicle" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(c) by omitting from subregulation (2)(b) "vehicle" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(d) by omitting from subregulation (2)(c) "vehicle" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(e) by omitting from subregulation (2)(d) "vehicle" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(f) by omitting from subregulation (2)(e) "vehicle" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(g) by omitting from subregulation (4) "motor vehicle or a trailer" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(h) by omitting from subregulation (4)(h) "in the case of a heavy vehicle, the" and substituting "the".
5. Regulation 65 amended (Obligation to display registration label)
Regulation 65 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by omitting subregulation (1) and substituting the following subregulations:(1) The registered operator of a registered heavy vehicle must ensure that the current registration label issued for the vehicle is affixed no later than 45 days after the later of the following:(a) the commencement of the registration period to which the label relates;(b) payment of the relevant registration payment.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 2 penalty units.(1A) The registered operator of a registered heavy vehicle must ensure that the current registration label issued for the vehicle is kept affixed, throughout the remainder of the registration period to which it relates (a) in the case of a heavy vehicle fitted with a windscreen or fixed windows to the lower left (or near) side portion of the front windscreen or to a fixed window on the left (or near) side of the vehicle; or(b) in the case of a heavy vehicle that is not fitted with a windscreen or fixed windows inside a waterproof holder attached in a conspicuous position to the left front of the vehicle and as near as convenient to the top of the vehicle; or(c) in the case of a heavy vehicle that is a trailer (other than a trailer to which paragraph (e) or (f) applies) on or adjacent to the vehicle's number plate so that the characters on the number plate are not obscured; or(d) in the case of a heavy vehicle that is a boat trailer or a trailer of not more than 5 metres in overall length in a conspicuous position on the outer left side of the trailer and as close to the front of the trailer (excluding the drawbar) as is practicable; or(e) in the case of a heavy vehicle that is a caravan either on the inside of the fixed window on the left side of the caravan or in a conspicuous position on the outer left side of the caravan and as close to the front of the caravan (excluding the drawbar) as is practicable; or(f) in any other case on or adjacent to the vehicle's rear number plate so that the characters on the number plate are not obscured.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 2 penalty units.(b) by omitting from subregulation (2) "motor vehicle or trailer" and substituting "heavy vehicle";(c) by inserting in subregulation (3) "issued for the vehicle" after "label".
6. Regulation 71 amended (Surrender)
Regulation 71(6) of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting "motor vehicle or trailer," and substituting "heavy vehicle,".
7. Regulation 107 amended (Return of certificate of registration and destruction of registration label after cancellation or expiry of registration, &c.)
Regulation 107(2) of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting "motor vehicle or a trailer" and substituting "heavy vehicle".
