Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment Regulations 2009

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment Regulations 2009 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations take effect on 27 April 2009.

3.   Principal Regulations

In these regulations, the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.

4.    Regulation 10D amended (Transitional provisions)

Regulation 10D(4A) of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting "the commencement of the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Novice Driver Licensing) Regulations 2009," and substituting "27 April 2009,".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation)

These regulations amend the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 by –
(a) providing that, on the commencement of the scheme which classifies novice drivers who hold learner licences into the L1 stage and the L2 stage, persons holding learner licences immediately before 27 April 2009 are taken to be in the L2 stage; and
(b) providing for related transitional matters.
