I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Health Care Card Concessions) Regulations 2008 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations are taken to have taken effect on 1 July 2008.

3.   Principal Regulations

In these regulations, the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.

4.    Regulation 3 amended (Interpretation)

The definition of pensioner in regulation 3(1) of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:
(a) by inserting in paragraph (b) "or" after "Act;";
(b) by inserting the following paragraph after paragraph (b) :
(c) who is the holder of a health care card issued in accordance with the Social Security Act 1991 of the Commonwealth;

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation)

These regulations amend the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 by providing that health care card holders are entitled to certain fee concessions that are presently only available to pensioner concession card holders and certain other persons.
