Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2003

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2003 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations take effect on 1 October 2003.

3.   Principal Regulations

In these regulations, the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.

4.    Schedule 2 amended (Demerit Points Offences)

Schedule 2 to the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting after item 177 the following item:

Drive using hand-held mobile phone (when moving or stationary, but not parked)

These regulations amend the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 by making it a demerit points offence to drive while using a hand-held mobile phone.
