Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Periodic Registration) Regulations 2001
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 .

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Periodic Registration) Regulations 2001 .
These regulations take effect on 1 July 2001.
In these regulations, the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.
4. Regulation 50 amended (Registration period)
Regulation 50(2)(b) of the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting "6 months or" after "be".
5. Schedule 1 amended (Fees)
Schedule 1 to the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting items 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 and 22 and substituting:

(a) for seasonal registration or renewal of seasonal registration of a heavy vehicle

(b) for registration or renewal of registration of a heavy vehicle for a period of 3 months or 6 months

(c) for registration or renewal of registration of a light vehicle for a period of 6 months
(i) in the case of a pensioner, a person with a severe disability, or the parent or guardian of a person with a severe disability who has not attained the age of 16 years

(ii) in the case of any other person

These regulations are administered in the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the regulation)
These regulations provide that, after 30 June 2001 (a) a light vehicle (a motor vehicle or trailer with a gross vehicle mass not exceeding 4.5 tonnes) may be registered for a period of 6 months or, as is presently the case, 12 months; and(b) the fee for registering a heavy vehicle (a motor vehicle or trailer with a gross vehicle mass exceeding 4.5 tonnes) for a period of 3 months or 6 months will be calculated in accordance with a statutory formula rather than a fixed amount and, as a result, the fee will be slightly reduced.
