Tasmanian State Service (Restructuring) Order (No. 2) 1998

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council and on the recommendation of the Minister, make the following order under section 24 of the Tasmanian State Service Act 1984 .

1.   Short title

This order may be cited as the Tasmanian State Service (Restructuring) Order (No. 2) 1998 .

2.   Commencement

This order takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette.

3.   Changes of name

(1)  The name of the Government department known as the Department of Community and Health Services is changed to the Department of Health and Human Services.
(2)  The name of the Government department known as the Department of Education, Training, Community and Cultural Development is changed to the Department of Education.
(3)  The name of the Government department known as the Department of Environment and Land Management is changed to the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment.
(4)  The name of the Government department known as the Department of Justice is changed to the Department of Justice and Industrial Relations.
(5)  The name of the Government department known as the Department of Police and Public Safety is changed to the Department of Police.

4.   Amalgamation of Government departments, &c.

(1)  Tasmania Development and Resources, Tourism Tasmania and the following parts of Government departments are amalgamated to form a Government department to be called the Department of State Development:
(a) Major Projects Tasmania, part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet;
(b) the Office of Sport and Recreation, part of the Department of Education;
(c) the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board, part of the Department of Education;
(d) the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, part of the Department of Education;
(e) the Office of Antarctic Affairs, part of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment.
(2)  The Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries and the Government Analytical and Forensic Laboratory, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, are amalgamated with the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment.
(3)  Private Forests Tasmania, the Department of Transport, the Workplace Standards Authority and the following parts of Government departments are amalgamated to form a Government department to be called the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources:
(a) Mineral Resources Tasmania, part of the Department of State Development;
(b) that part of the Local Government Office within the Department of Premier and Cabinet which deals with building, plumbing and related matters;
(c) Racing Tasmania, part of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment.
(4)  TAFE Tasmania and the Tasmanian Secondary Assessment Board are amalgamated with the Department of Education.
(5)  The Tasmania Fire Service is amalgamated with the Department of Health and Human Services.
(6)  The following parts of Government departments are amalgamated with the Department of Justice and Industrial Relations:
(a) the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Tribunal, part of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources;
(b) the Tasmanian Industrial Commission, part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet;
(c) the Office of the Enterprise Commissioner, part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet;
(d) the Industrial Relations Branch, part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
(7)  The following parts of Government departments are amalgamated with the Department of Premier and Cabinet:
(a) the Office of the Status of Women, part of the Department of Education;
(b) the Office of Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs, part of the Department of Education;
(c) the Office of Aboriginal Affairs, part of the Department of Education.
