Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania) Amendment Regulations 2026

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania) Act 2013 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania) Amendment Regulations 2026 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations take effect on 1 August 2026.

3.   Principal Regulations

In these regulations, the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania) Regulations 2023 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.

4.    Regulation 6 amended (Infringement notice offences)

Regulation 6 of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting "table" and substituting "tables".

5.    Regulation 6A inserted

After regulation 6 of the Principal Regulations , the following regulation is inserted:

6A.   Transitional offences for existing heavy vehicle accreditations

(1)  In this regulation –

amendment Act means the Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Act 2025 of Queensland;

existing heavy vehicle accreditation has the same meaning as in section 761 of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania);

transitional offence means an offence against a provision of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania), as in force immediately before the commencement of the amendment Act, specified in column 2 of the table in Part 3 of Schedule 1.

(2)  Despite regulation 6, a transitional offence that continues to apply, under section 761 of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Tasmania), in relation to an existing heavy vehicle accreditation is prescribed for the purposes of section 591 of that Law.

6.    Schedule 1 amended (Infringement Notice Offences)

Schedule 1 to the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting "and 6A" after " Regulation 6 ".

7.    Schedule 1 amended (Infringement Notice Offences)

Schedule 1 to the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:

(a) by inserting the following definition after the definition of HVFM in clause 1 of Part 1 :

HVG means the Heavy Vehicle (General) National Regulation, as made under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and applied in this jurisdiction by section 5 of the Act;

(b) by inserting the following definition after the definition of HVNL in clause 1 of Part 1 :

HVVS means the Heavy Vehicle (Vehicle Standards) National Regulation, as made under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and applied in this jurisdiction by section 5 of the Act;

(c) by inserting in clause 2 of Part 1 "or Part 3" after " Part 2 ";

(d) by omitting Part 2 and substituting the following Parts:
