Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries (Taxi Fares) Amendment Order 2026

The Transport Commission makes the following order under section 66A of the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries Act 2008 .

1.   Short title

This order may be cited as the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries (Taxi Fares) Amendment Order 2026 .

2.   Commencement

This order takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette.

3.   Principal Order

In this order, the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries (Taxi Fares) Order 2025 is referred to as the Principal Order.

4.    Schedule 2 amended (Standard fares, 29 January 2026 to 28 January 2027)

Clause 5 of Schedule 2 to the Principal Order is amended by omitting subclauses (2) and (3) and substituting the following subclauses:
(2) The third tariff to be charged by a taxi to which this clause applies is the amount recorded on the taximeter when the taximeter is calibrated to record –

2. 

Distance rate

$2.83 per kilometre travelled

3. 

Waiting time

74.8 cents per minute of time elapsed

(3) The fourth tariff to be charged by a taxi to which this clause applies is the amount recorded on the taximeter when the taximeter is calibrated to record –

$5.90

2. 

Distance rate

$3.35 per kilometre travelled

Waiting time

74.8 cents per minute of time elapsed

This order amends the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries (Taxi Fares) Order 2025 to increase the distance rate for wheelchair-accessible taxis, operating under tariffs 3 and 4, to reflect significant increases in the price of fuel.
