Road Amendment (Approved Bicycle Helmets) Rules 2025
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following rules under the Traffic Act 1925 .

These rules may be cited as the Road Amendment (Approved Bicycle Helmets) Rules 2025 .
These rules take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.
In these rules, the Road Rules 2019 are referred to as the Principal Rules.
4. Schedule 6 amended (Jurisdictional qualifications)
Schedule 6 to the Principal Rules is amended by omitting clause 1 from Part 3 and substituting the following clause:1. Rules 256 and 257: Approved bicycle helmetFor rules 256 and 257(1), a bicycle helmet is approved for the Road Rules if the helmet (a) complies with (i) Australian Standard AS/NZS 2063; or(ii) another standard that the Transport Commission determines to be equal to Australian Standard AS/NZS 2063; and(b) is marked in accordance with the relevant standard referred to in paragraph (a) ; and(c) has no visible defect.NoteAustralian Standard is defined in the dictionary.

These rules amend the Road Rules by updating the jurisdictional qualification for an approved bicycle helmet consequent on new mandatory standards for bicycle helmets.
