Defamation Order 2017
I make the following order under section 35(3) of the Defamation Act 2005 .

This order may be cited as the Defamation Order 2017 .
This order takes effect on 1 July 2017.
For the purposes of section 35(1) of the Defamation Act 2005 , the maximum damages amount that is to apply from 1 July 2017 is declared to be $389 500.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This order, for the purposes of section 35(1) of the Defamation Act 2005 , declares $389 500 to be the maximum amount of damages for non-economic loss that may be awarded from 1 July 2017 in defamation proceedings.
