Road Amendment Rules 2013
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following rules under section 31A of the Traffic Act 1925 .

These rules may be cited as the Road Amendment Rules 2013 .
These rules take effect on 1 February 2014.
In these rules, the Road Rules 2009 are referred to as the Principal Rules.
4. Rule 25 amended (Speed-limit elsewhere)
Rule 25 of the Principal Rules is amended by omitting subrule (3) and substituting the following subrules:(3) The default speed-limit applying to a driver for any other length of road is –(a) 100 kilometres per hour on a sealed length of road; and(b) 80 kilometres per hour on an unsealed length of road.(4) In this rule –sealed length of road means a length of road that is paved with bitumen, concrete or another smooth, bonded, weather-resistant material;unsealed length of road includes a length of road with a compacted, or loose, gravel surface.
5. Rule 375 rescinded
Rule 375 of the Principal Rules is rescinded.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the rule)
These rules amend the Road Rules 2009 by –(a) providing that the default speed-limit for all drivers outside built-up areas is 80 kilometres per hour on an unsealed length of road; and(b) rescinding existing temporary default speed-limits in certain municipalities.
