Sale of Hazardous Goods (Treadmills) Order 2010
The Products Safety Committee makes the following order under section 8 of the Sale of Hazardous Goods Act 1977 .
This order may be cited as the Sale of Hazardous Goods (Treadmills) Order 2010 .
This order takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette.
In this order treadmill means an exercise device that consist of an endless conveyor belt, that is either rotated manually or by a motor, on which a person can walk or jog in one place.
4. Restriction on sale of treadmills
(1) A person must not sell a treadmill unless it has the following warning label attached to it:
"WARNING: Keep young children away from this machine at all times. Contact with the moving surface may result in severe friction burns."
(2) The warning label in subclause (1) must (a) be in a conspicuous position; and(b) be visible to the user of the treadmill when it is being used; and(c) show the word "WARNING" in bold upper case letters at least 5 millimetres high; and(d) show the remaining words in lower case letters at least 2.5 millimetres high; and(e) be separate from any other warning or label on the treadmill; and(f) be attached to the treadmill using a method that ensures the labelling is permanent.
This order was made by the Products Safety Committee at a meeting held on 9 February 2010.
