Local Government (General) Amendment (Councillor Allowances) Regulations 2008
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Local Government Act 1993 .

These regulations may be cited as the Local Government (General) Amendment (Councillor Allowances) Regulations 2008 .
These regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.
In these regulations, the Local Government (General) Regulations 2005 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.
4. Regulation 3 amended (Interpretation)
Regulation 3 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by omitting the definition of Consumer Price Index figure ;(b) by omitting "Consumer Price Index" first occurring from the definition of inflationary factor and substituting "Wage Price Index";(c) by omitting "Consumer Price Index" second occurring from the definition of inflationary factor and substituting "Wage Price Index";(d) by omitting "only." from the definition of table and substituting "only;";(e) by inserting the following definition after the definition of table :Wage Price Index figure means the Labour Price Index, Australia: WPI All Groups Tasmania published by the Australian Statistician under the authority of the Census and Statistics Act 1905 of the Commonwealth.
5. Regulation 42 substituted
Regulation 42 of the Principal Regulations is rescinded and the following regulation is substituted:42. Allowances for elected members
(1) For the purposes of sections 340A(1) and (2) of the Act, the allowances for councillors and the additional allowances for deputy mayors and mayors for the period of 12 months starting on 1 November 2008 are as specified in columns 2, 3 and 4 respectively of Schedule 4 .(2) The allowances for councillors and the additional allowances for deputy mayors and mayors payable in each subsequent period of 12 months starting on 1 November (a) take effect from that date each year; and(b) are calculated by multiplying the allowances for the previous year by the inflationary factor for the current year and rounding the resulting amount to the nearest whole dollar.(3) The allowances referred to in this regulation are to be paid in monthly or fortnightly instalments.
6. Schedule 4 substituted
Schedule 4 to the Principal Regulations is rescinded and the following Schedule is substituted:SCHEDULE 4 - Allowances for elected members

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the regulation)
These regulations amend the Local Government (General) Regulations 2005 by (a) updating the allowances payable to councillors, deputy mayors and mayors with effect from 1 November 2008; and(b) changing the index used to ascertain the inflationary factor for the calculation of subsequent annual adjustments to those allowances.
