Sale of Hazardous Goods Order 2000

The Products Safety Committee makes the following order under section 8 of the Sale of Hazardous Goods Act 1977 .

1.   Short title

This order may be cited as the Sale of Hazardous Goods Order 2000 .

2.   Commencement

This order takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette.

3.   Prohibition on sale of certain candles and candle wicks

A person must not sell –
(a) any candle with a wick that contains lead; or
(b) any candle wick that contains lead.

4.   Prohibition on sale of certain toys and novelty items

A person must not sell any soft plastic inflatable toy or any soft plastic inflatable novelty item that contains small pieces of polystyrene or other similar material that may be accessible –
(a) if the toy is damaged; or
(b) through any valve or opening.

This order was made by the Products Safety Committee at a meeting held on 7 October 1999.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the notice)

This order prohibits the sale of –
(a) candles with wicks that contain lead; and
(b) candle wicks that contain lead; and
(c) certain soft plastic inflatable toys and novelty items.
