Traffic (Miscellaneous) Amendment (Seasonal Registration) Regulations 1999
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Traffic Act 1925 .

These regulations may be cited as the Traffic (Miscellaneous) Amendment (Seasonal Registration) Regulations 1999 .
These regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.
In these regulations, the Traffic (Miscellaneous) Regulations 1968 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.
4. Regulation 2 amended (Interpretation)
Regulation 2 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by inserting after the definition of "driver" the following definition:fee unit means a fee unit calculated in accordance with the Fee Units Act 1997 ;(b) by omitting the definitions of "heavy vehicle type A" and "heavy vehicle type B" and substituting the following definition:heavy vehicle means a motor vehicle or trailer with a gross vehicle mass greater than 4.5 tonnes;(c) by inserting after the definition of "responsible operator" the following definition:seasonal registration means the registration of a vehicle for a period of 3 or 6 months in accordance with regulation 11AA;
After regulation 11 of the Principal Regulations the following regulation is inserted:The Registrar, on the application of the owner of a heavy vehicle, may approve the seasonal registration of the vehicle for a period of 3 months or 6 months if the Registrar is satisfied that (a) the vehicle is to be used for a specific purpose which occurs on a seasonal basis; or(b) the use of the vehicle is restricted to a particular time or particular times of the year.
6. Regulation 11A amended (Registration for a period less than the standard vehicle registration period)
Regulation 11A of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by omitting subregulation (1);(b) by omitting "type B" from subregulation (2);(c) by omitting subregulation (4);(d) by omitting "type B" from subregulation (5);(e) by inserting after subregulation (5) the following subregulations:(5A) When a seasonal registration of a heavy vehicle expires it may, in its owner's discretion, be renewed for a 3 or 6 month period.(5B) A seasonal registration may be renewed not more than 12 months after its expiry.
7. Regulation 12A amended (Return of number-plates)
Regulation 12A of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by omitting "Where" and substituting "(1) Where";(b) by inserting ", except in the case of the seasonal registration of a heavy vehicle," after "expired";(c) by adding the following subregulations:(2) Where the seasonal registration of a heavy vehicle has expired, the owner of the vehicle is to return the number-plates issued in respect of the vehicle to the Registrar within 14 days after the expiry of the renewal period.(3) In this regulation,renewal period means the period of 12 months after a seasonal registration expires.
8. Schedule 9 amended (Vehicle registration fees)
Schedule 9 to the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting Parts 1 and 2 and substituting the following Parts:PART 2 - Fees for half-yearly registration

For the registration or renewal of registration of a heavy vehicle, other than a trailer, for a period of 6 months

9. Schedule 10 amended (Administrative fee for short-term registration)
Schedule 10 to the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting "heavy" before "vehicle".
