Proclamation under the Cremation Regulations 1999
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council and having sufficient reason to do so, by this my proclamation made under regulation 31 of the Cremation Regulations 1999
17 May 1999(a) modify the provisions of paragraph (c) of section 5 of the Cremation Act 1934 by inserting after "regulations" in that paragraph "except for the purpose of enabling the remains of an Aboriginal person known as Jeffrey Michael Steven Wells to be cremated on Big Dog Island in Tasmania according to the customs and tradition of the Tasmanian Aboriginal community"; and(b) determine that the modification referred to in paragraph (a) ceases to have effect on 21 May 1999; and(c) declare that this proclamation takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette.
