Adoption Amendment Regulations 1998

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Adoption Act 1988 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Adoption Amendment Regulations 1998 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.

3.   Principal Regulations

In these regulations, the Adoption Regulations 1992 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.

4.   Regulation 20 amended (Approval of applicants)

Regulation 20(7) of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting "effected" and substituting "approved by the Director or principal officer".

5.   Regulation 29 amended (Requirements for placement of child)

Regulation 29(e) of the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting "or where the applicants have had substantial parenting experience but their child or children have died or ceased to live with the applicants " after "applicants".

6.   Regulation 33 amended (Applications for adoption orders)

Regulation 33(2) of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting "6" and substituting "8".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation)

These regulations make minor amendments to the provisions of the Adoption Regulations 1992 relating to –
(a) the approval of applicants for the adoption of a child; and
(b) the requirements for the placement of a child with persons with a view to their adoption of the child; and
(c) applications for adoption orders.
