Racing (Electoral) Amendment Regulations 1998
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Racing Act 1983 .

These regulations may be cited as the Racing (Electoral) Amendment Regulations 1998 .
These regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.
In these regulations, the Racing (Electoral) Regulations 1997 are referred to as the Principal Regulations.
4. Regulation 14 amended (Persons eligible to participate in ballots)
Regulation 14 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by omitting "has been so licensed for the full 12 month period immediately preceding that day" from subregulation (1)(a) and substituting "was licensed under those rules in the previous racing year";(b) by omitting "has been so licensed for the full 12 month period immediately preceding that day" from subregulation (1)(b) and substituting "was licensed under those rules in the previous racing year";(c) by omitting "the day fixed for the close of nominations" from subregulation (2) and substituting "a day determined by the Returning Officer";(d) by omitting "has been so licensed for the full 12 month period immediately preceding that day" from subregulation (2)(a) and substituting "was licensed under those rules in the previous racing year";(e) by omitting "has been so licensed for the full 12 month period immediately preceding that day" from subregulation (2)(b) and substituting "was licensed under those rules in the previous racing year".
5. Regulation 29 amended (Appointment of members to a Council)
Regulation 29 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:(a) by inserting in paragraph (a) "of the kind referred to in regulation 27(a) " after "vacancy";(b) by inserting after paragraph (a) the following paragraph:(ab) a casual vacancy of the kind referred to in regulation 27(b) occurs; or

These regulations are administered in the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries by Racing Tasmania.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the regulation)
These regulations amend the Racing (Electoral) Regulations 1997 by –(a) providing that a person is eligible to participate in a ballot if he or she is licensed under the Rules of Racing and was licensed under those rules in the previous season; and(b) enabling the Minister to appoint a member to a Council if not all the positions required to be filled are filled at a normal election.
