Marine and Safety (Collision) Regulations 1997
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Marine and Safety Authority Act 1997 .

These regulations may be cited as the Marine and Safety (Collision) Regulations 1997 .
These regulations commence on 30 July 1997.
In these regulations,International Regulations means the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 as amended from time to time and issued by the International Maritime Organisation.
4. Adoption of International Regulations
The International Regulations and any notes included in those Regulations are adopted as regulations in respect of –(a) the prevention of collisions; and(b) the use of lights and fog signals by vessels.
A person must not fail to comply with or contravene a provision of the International Regulations applicable to that person.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 50 penalty units.
6. Revocation of distress signals
(1) If the master of a vessel uses or authorises the use of a distress signal prescribed in Annexe IV of the International Regulations by means of a transmission by a ship radio station, the master must cause a message revoking that signal to be transmitted when satisfied that the vessel is no longer in need of assistance.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 50 penalty units.(2) A distress signal is not revoked until a coast station has acknowledged the revocation.
The following regulations are rescinded:(a) the Marine (Collision) Regulations 1983 (Statutory Rules 1983, No. 107);(b) the Marine (Collision) Amendment Regulations 1983 (Statutory Rules 1983, No. 154);(c) the Marine (Collision) Amendment Regulations 1989 (Statutory Rules 1989, No. 201);(d) the Marine (Collision) Amendment Regulations 1990 (Statutory Rules 1990, No. 62);(e) the Marine (Collision) Amendment Regulations 1991 (Statutory Rules 1991, No. 179);(f) the Marine (Collision) Amendment Regulations 1996 (Statutory Rules 1996, No. 93).
These regulations cease to take effect on 31 December 1999.
