Fire Service Amendment Act 2017
An Act to amend the Fire Service Act 1979
[Royal Assent 31 March 2017]
Be it enacted by Her Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Fire Service Amendment Act 2017 .
This Act commences on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent.
In this Act, the Fire Service Act 1979 is referred to as the Principal Act.
4. Section 7 amended (State Fire Commission)
Section 7 of the Principal Act is amended as follows:(a) by inserting the following paragraph after paragraph (a) in subsection (3) :(ab) a chairperson appointed in accordance with section 7A ; and(b) by omitting subsection (5) .
5. Section 7A inserted
After section 7 of the Principal Act , the following section is inserted in Division 1:(1) The Governor, on the recommendation of the Minister, is to appoint a person as chairperson of the Commission.(2) The chairperson is to be a person who the Minister considers will carry out the duties of chairperson in an independent and fair manner.(3) The chairperson holds office for the term, and on the conditions, specified in his or her instrument of appointment.
This Act is repealed on the three hundred and sixty fifth day from the day on which it commences.
