Local Government (Special Elections) Amendment Act 1997

An Act to amend the Local Government (Special Elections) Act 1993

[Royal Assent 11 December 1997]

Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1.   Short title

This Act may be cited as the Local Government (Special Elections) Amendment Act 1997 .

2.   Commencement

This Act commences on the day after the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

3.   Principal Act

In this Act, the Local Government (Special Elections) Act 1993 is referred to as the Principal Act.

4.   Part 2: Division 3 inserted

After section 7A of the Principal Act, the following Division is inserted in Part 2:
Division 3 - 1998 Elections

7B.   Postal voting in 1998

Any election for a council in 1998 under Part 15 of the Local Government Act 1993 is to be held by postal voting in accordance with that Act.
