Poisons (Interim Authorisation) Order 2017
I make the following order under section 25D of the Poisons Act 1971 .

This order may be cited as the Poisons (Interim Authorisation) Order 2017 .
This order takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette.
In this order Act means the Poisons Act 1971 ;listed substance means a substance listed in the optometry guidelines as being a scheduled medicine approved by the Optometry Board of Australia for administration by optometrists holding general registration;optometrist means a person registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania) in the optometry profession;Optometry Board of Australia means the Optometry Board of Australia established under section 31 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania);optometry guidelines means the Guidelines for use of scheduled medicines published by the Optometry Board of Australia;podiatric surgeon means a person registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania) in the specialty of podiatric surgery;podiatrist means a person registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania) in the podiatry profession;Podiatry Board of Australia means the Podiatry Board of Australia established under section 31 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania).
4. Authorised health professionals and authorised bodies
(1) The following classes of health professionals are declared to be authorised health professionals for the purposes of the Act:(a) optometrists;(b) podiatric surgeons;(c) podiatrists.(2) The Optometry Board of Australia is declared to be an authorised body for optometrists.(3) The Podiatry Board of Australia is declared to be an authorised body for podiatric surgeons and podiatrists.(4) An optometrist, podiatric surgeon or podiatrist, in the lawful practice of his or her profession, is authorised to possess, sell, supply or prescribe a scheduled substance if he or she is (a) endorsed to possess, sell, supply or prescribe that scheduled substance by the relevant authorised body and is acting in accordance with that endorsement; or(b) authorised to possess, sell, supply or prescribe that scheduled substance by clause 5 or 6 .
5. Administration or supply of listed substance by optometrists
(1) Optometrists in the lawful practice of the profession of optometry may administer and supply listed substances.(2) The administration and supply by optometrists of listed substances is subject to the condition that any administration or supply is in accordance with the optometry guidelines.
6. Administration of local anaesthetic by podiatrists
Podiatrists in the lawful practice of the profession of podiatry may administer local anaesthetics included in Schedule 4 of the Poisons List.
In accordance with section 25D(2) of the Poisons Act 1971 , this order ceases to have effect at the end of the period of 6 months commencing on the day on which it takes effect.
